The market of weight loss products is one that is truly overflowing with a vast number
of products. There are many manufacturers that offer the best in fitness equipment and many weight loss
programs that offer the best food to lose weight.
But still even with all of this, many people find it extremely difficult to lose weight and look the way they
want without taking weight loss supplements. And even still, many people still fail while using weight loss
supplements. This can be attributed to three different reasons.
Firstly, a lot of weight loss supplements promise unrealistic goals. Secondly, these manufacturers rely on the
dieter’s failure, causing the dieter to blame themselves, and not the weight loss product. Thirdly, some
information regarding supplements is designed solely to sell the product, and not to provide the public with honest
information.
The Food and Drug Administration has made great strides in making sure that only legitimate products are on the
market. However, some manufacturers still find a way to slip through the cracks and make their product
available.
For example, consumers may take a product that contains caffeine or ephedra, thinking that these will help them
lose weight, or not even realizing they’re in the product at all! These ingredients however have very serious side
effects such as heart and digestive problems; headaches; insomnia; and psychological side effects.
Other manufacturers trick consumers by telling them that their product contains EGCG. This is a phytochemical
which is said to speed up metabolism. While this ingredient certainly is beneficial, it’s for its cancer-fighting
properties, not its weight loss components that make it so.
Studies have shown however that it might marginally be able to help people to lose weight, and so for this
reason, it can be found in many weight loss products today. However, if taken over time, it’s found that EGCG may
help reduce 60 to 70 calories per day, which effectively could help with weight loss.
Other weight loss products claim that it will prevent the body from absorbing carbohydrates. Chitosan is one of
the most popular examples of this. However, tests on Chitosan have concluded that there’s actually no fat
absorption, meaning that there will be no weight loss results seen at all.
Thyroid stimulators are also grouped into this category because it’s thought that they can activate the thyroid
and increase its functions. However, the only effect these weight loss supplements will have on the thyroid is to
slow it down and make someone feel lazy and sluggish, which will disable it from being able to do its job
altogether.
Another ingredient that manufacturers have taken advantage of in the battle of the bulge is Guar Gum. This
ingredient has been attributed with suppressing the appetite, causing someone to eat less and therefore lose
weight. However, there has been no scientific evidence that Guar Gum actually helps with this. Another newer
product is also cutting gel, which is said to help with weight loss through absorption of the skin.
There are many weight loss supplements that are on the market claiming to be able to help you lose weight. But
it’s important to remember before investing in one, that an investment in a good pair of walking shoes is always a
better choice when you’re trying to lose weight!
